FESTIVAL DE CANNES

The Festival de Cannes has celebrated the cinema for more than 60 years.
Over the years, the French Association of the International Film Festival has been able to evolve whilst retaining the essential: the passion for motion pictures, discovery of new talents, and enthusiasm of festival-goers and professionals from around the world, all contributing to the birth and distribution of films.
The Festival de Cannes has always been the reflection of its era: a centre for all cultures and hopes, a spring of effervescence and, above all, transmission.
Defining ambitious and different projects, giving the possibility to budding filmmakers to emerge. A showcase of talents with respect of all tastes.
The Official Selection
At the heart of the Festival: that which is long awaited and celebrated in the different selections: the Competition, Un Certain Regard, films Out of Competition, Special Screenings, and Cinéfondation's competition of shorts and film school productions. Together, they represent an anthology of singular works, original cinematic approaches, discoveries and confirmation of talents, highlighted and awarded by the juries.
Supporting creation
The Caméra d'Or Prize is awarded to the best first film presented in the Official Selection (Competition and Un Certain Regard), Directors' Fortnight or International Critics' Week.
The Cinéfondation, in addition to the selection, supports the new generation of international cinema through its Residence and Atelier.
The Short Film Corner is dedicated to promoting short films.
For all film buffs
The Festival de Cannes offers programmes and events which enable one to discover the cinema differently: Cannes Classics, Cinema Masterclass, tributes, Cinéma de la Plage, outdoors and open to all…
Services for professionals
The Film Market contributes to the dynamism of the world's cinema industry. It offers services which allow professionals to meet and exchange ideas: the International Village, Producers' Network and cinando.com.
Hosting cinematographies
The Village international is the place where all motion picture-producing countries have the chance to showcase the richness of their cinematography within a pavilion.

Created by the French Directors Guild in the wake of the events of May ’68, the Directors’ Fortnight seeks to aid filmmakers and contribute to their discovery by the critics and audiences alike. From its initial program in 1969, it cast its lot with the avant-garde (the glorious seventies), even as it created a breeding ground where the Cannes Festival would regularly find its prestigious auteurs.
Among the various sections at the Cannes Film Festival, the Directors' Fortnight is distinguished by its independent-mindedness, its non-competitive nature and its concern to cater to non-professional Cannes audiences, which can buy a subscription for the entire Fortnight program or purchase tickets for individual screenings.
Striving to be eclectic and receptive to all forms of cinematic expression, the Directors' Fortnight pays particular attention to the annual production of fiction features, short films and documentaries, to the emergence of independent fringe filmmaking, and even to contemporary popular genres, provided these films are the expression of an individual talent and an original directorial style.

Parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival, la Semaine de la Critique has steadfastly remained true to its tradition of discovering new talents. Ever since it was conceived by the French Union of Film Critics in 1962, the objective of la Semaine de la Critique has been to showcase first and second feature films by directors from all over the world.
A reflection of a mix of demand and curiosity, which distinguished film critic, la Semaine de la Critique intends to explore and reveal the new creation.
Within its research of new filmmakers, la Semaine has always paid great attention to short and medium length films, first steps in the career of a director.
Each edition gives La Semaine de la Critique an opportunity to reveal 20 filmmakers. The Competition category is composed of 7 feature and 7 short films.
3 feature and 3 medium length films are presented in the Special Screenings category.
