Anchorage is a medium-sized city crouching on the edge of the howling Alaskan wilderness, surrounded by mountains and edged by a frigid and restless sea. It's far away from Cannes, Sundance, and Toronto, and people up here are proud of the fact they do things a little differently from the rest of the world. Independence has always been regarded as an asset and that quality remains a common character trait, even today.
The Anchorage International Film Festival is in its 10th year, and we invite you to participate in a festival unlike any other. The enthusiasm, sophistication and passion of our audiences will surprise you, and the integrity of our judging process is second to none - yet it is still possible for your film to stand out, as we are not overwhelmed by the sheer number of entries that besiege larger festivals. Besides, up here in the winter, we really don't have that much to do, so immersing ourselves in the selection process and gorging on the vibrant visions of filmmakers is actually a guilty pleasure for us.
We've been visited by the LA Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, the Sundance Channel, and Hypnotic Films, among others, and were featured in Premiere Magazine and Canal+ Belgium's documentary "Around the World in 25 Film Festivals." We urge you to submit your films and come join us in Alaska this December under the Northern Lights, together with other independent filmmakers from around the world. We know you'll be pleasantly surprised by Anchorage, our cinematic city by the sea.
