The film presents itself as a docu-fiction on Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia. They were two of the most famous Sicilian actors and comics, in the history of Italian film. Eventhough their comic performance generated the appraise of the popular audience and was represented by an infinite number of films, eventually developed into series, it was often snubbed by critics and intellectuals. Up until now , seldom receiving any serious reconsideration. The documentary parts in the film are based on real events, depicting the careers of Franchi and Ingrassia, with particular focus on their early years in Palermo, later discovered by Modugno and Mattoli. The film takes us through the stages of their careers, up until the time of their major success in film and television. In the last segment of the story, we are told of the decline of this great success, their eventual break up and solitude. This is the tale of the decadence in Italian cinema, the end of a golden era (as witnessed by the directors, artists and technicians who survived them).
