Brief Encounters continues to champion new talent within the film industry by showcasing an exciting and inspiring array of new shorts from around the globe. As an essential forum where talent meets the industry our programme of events resumes with the Film School, Market Place and Surgeries.
Since its first year in 1995, as well as showing a fantastic array of regional, national and international works, Brief Encounters has covered areas as extensive as Australian, French and Irish cinema, a programme exhange with the Sau Paulo International Short Film Festival and special events with Jack Cardiff, Terry Jones and the bolexbrothers.
In 2000, we were honoured to host the first British screening of Beckett on Screen four critically acclaimed screen adaptations of Samuel Beckett plays. This was followed by a Q & A session with three of the films directors Anthony Minghella, Damien O'Donnell and Kieron J. Walsh.
In 2000, Animated Encounters, Brief Encounters sister festival, was launched to promote and celebrate the artform of animation from all over the world. Bristol has clearly defined itself as the capital of animation and proves a perfect host for this highly successful event.
The Market
The Market is a great opportunity for companies, organisations and individuals to advertise themselves, showcase their work in the Screening Room, pitch ideas and blatantly network! Here those interested in breaking into the film industry have the chance to meet with representatives from numerous funding, distribution, production and educational organisations such as the UK Film Council, South West Screen, the BBC, ITV West and Kodak. It is a great opportunity to make valuable contacts and receive information and advice on all aspects of the industry.
