The International Braunschweig Film Festival, the film festival with the longest tradition in Lower Saxony, has been a constant feature of regional and supraregional cultural life here for 19 years now. Founded in 1986 as a non-profit organization, it has retained its original structure ever since. The managing committee works closely with the full-time festival employees as well as with society members. They help in selecting the films to be shown and look after the festival guests. The festival itself is an audience orientated festival which presents its more than 18,000 visitors about 150 full-length and short films annually. The emphasis lies on contemporary European productions. First showings, international highlights, retrospectives and portraits will give the audience and the press ample scope for new discoveries on the screen.
Audience Award, called "The Heinrich", grants 10.000 Euro.
