The Lessinia Film Festival is the only Italian cinematographic competition dedicated exclusively to short films, documentaries, and full length features about the life, history and traditions of the mountains. The festival, initiated in 1995 by the Curatorium Cimbricum Veronense Association as a video exhibition dedicated to the Veronese mountains, gradually expanded to encompass the mountains of the entire world. It excludes from competition, however, works dealing with sport and mountain climbing.
The cinematographic program will be complemented by special events, retrospectives, international guests, exhibitions, meetings, debates, concerts and other activities concerning the life, history, and traditions of the mountains.
Eligible for the Festival are both films and videos (features, shorts, documentaries, animated films) that represent, emphasize, and encourage the understanding of social, linguistic, human, economic, environmental, natural, historical, and artistic realities pertaining to the mountains or to other lands far from urban centres, as well as of the traditions, customs, and habits of the people who live in the mountains and in other distant lands.
Works about sports or mountaineering are excluded from the competition.
An international jury, whose members will be announced at the beginning of the Festival, will award the following official prizes. The jury’s decisions are final and incontrovertible:
Lessinia d’Oro including € 5,000 for the best film overall
Lessinia d’Argento including € 3,000 for the best direction/director
Prize for the best documentary film
Prize for the best long fiction film
Prize for the best short fiction film
If it so chooses, the international jury may also bestow a Jury Prize, which does not include a monetary award. The official prizes are awarded to the main author of the work; a given author may receive only one of these prizes. Other independent juries will award the following special prizes:
Prize from the Curatorium Cimbricum Veronense in memory of Piero Piazzola and Mario Pigozzi for the best film by a young director
Prize from the Cassa Rurale Vallagarina for the best film about the Alps
Prize from the jury MicroCosmo of inmates of the Verona prison
Log to Green Movie Award per il miglior film ecosostenibile
The Bertani Winery Prize from the public
Prize from the Children
