Maria, Pinuccia, Lia, Katia and Antonella are five sisters who live in an apartment in Palermo. They make a living by renting doves for ceremonies. On a normal day at the beach, Antonella accidentally dies. Her death is going to turn upside down their relationships for the rest of their lives.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
The movie is divided into three chapters, each of which corresponds to a particular age of the five sisters who are its protagonists: childhood, adulthood and old age. The sisters are played by twelve actresses, as if each of them to have lasted into old age has had to cope with a discontinuity and a mutation in body and in features. And it is the sisters’ love for each other and for the home in which they live that keeps their entire existence going as if they were a single living organism, notwithstanding the physical death of some of them. Le sorelle Macaluso is a film about time. About memory. About things that last. About people who remain even after their death. It is a film on old age as the incredible finishing line of life.
