A fearless fiery Chinese woman named Mae travels to Rome to find that her older sister has gone missing. Mae is the second child in a poor Chinese family who grew up during China’s one-child policy and was forced to live in hiding her whole childhood. To pay the hefty fine to make Mae a legal citizen, her sister moved to Italy for work, and now she’s disappeared. Mae’s search quickly leads her to the seedy underworld of prostitution rings and human traEicking dominated by organized crime in the vibrant multi-ethnic immigrant neighbourhood of Piazza Vittorio. But, when she learns that her sister has run oE with an older Roman lover, she begrudgingly teams up with the old man’s foul-mouthed close- minded son, Marcello, the chef of a failing restaurant and the last remaining Italian-owned eatery in the neighbourhood. Despite their diEerences, these two lost souls eventually find connection through food, sharing and mixing their two cuisines: Roman and Chinese. And together they are catapulted into an action-packed descent into the criminal underworld of the Capital dominated by the Chinese mafia, in a desperate search mission—both for his father and her sister—that will rapidly morph into a rip-roaring quest for vengeance. Their mission will challenge Marcello’s prejudices and fierce Roman identity and will force Mae to face her traumatic past and the guilt she feels for her sister’s fate.
