Grieving Canaries is a story, told through testimonies, bird songs and people, of an extraordinary, almost magical world, which congregates in the margins of ordinary life of southern Italy.
From the poachers who pass down the “trade” from generation to generation, to the ex-convicts who, “initiated” into their ornithological passion while in prison, are forced to survive by capturing and selling banned birds.
From the (apparently unscrupulous) dealers to the entire milieu that every Sunday revolves around and feeds off of an underground market whose characters are as improbable and bizarre as they are straightforward and genuine.
