Giancarlo Parretti, born in Orvieto from a modest family, started to work at a very young age. But even in his earliest jobs washing dishes, the young man displayed much higher ambitions. Over the space of twenty years, he associated with people in the political and financial worlds, with no discrimination as to colour, gender or creed, and with the sole purpose of taking over the legendary Metro Goldwyn Mayer studios. The operation turned out to be the greatest financial disaster in the history of film. But today Parretti candidly states: “For me, MGM is like a woman… the important thing was to conquer her, then whatever happens, happens…”
