The Italian Resistance in the plains around Ferrara and the Polesine area is a little-known chapter of World War II, but those plains also had their heroes, martyrs, wounded and war memories. By speaking with eyewitnesses to that struggle and hearing their accounts, I have tried to reconstruct the history of those decisive months.

Director’s Statement
The plains, the canals, the Po River that fans into its delta and lagoon: the lack of hiding places meant that the Resistance to the Nazis and the Fascist regime would take a particular form. With its martyrs and its heroes, its victims and spies, this Resistance spawned traumas and memories I have tried to describe in talks with some of the last remaining participants.
