The new wave of women filmmakers in Berlin

Event "Femminile Plurale" from 7 to 10 April

The new wave of women filmmakers in Berlin

With hundreds of posters on the city walls and a trailer screening on subway station monitors in Berlin and Munich, FEMMINILE PLURALE an event promoted and conceived by Cinecittà will let the public get to know the most recent women filmmakers in Italian Cinema with a gaze into the past.
If Elvira Notari was a true pioneer of cinema in Italy and in the world, later and throughout the last century there wasn’t much space left for women in general. Indeed, for Lina Wertmüller, the first female director in the world nominated for the Oscars as well as Cristina Comencini, many directors found their doors barred.
Only in recent years there has been a reversal of this trend, these auteurs are no longer isolated cases; however, they haven’t become a production trend either, the numbers are still against women and the production model doesn’t really take them into consideration when it comes to films that aspire more to the box office than festivals.
In this scenario and set in the period from 2010-2021 we find Femminile Plurale, the event that will allow Berliners who attend the Kant Kino and Klick Kino cinemas from April 7 to April 10 to know this new wave of women filmmakers in Italian Cinema. The German public will also be able to access the event online on the platform: sooner.de from April 7-20th
