Advancing ahead for over 10 years now, short films, which have become a common part of the entertainment world, stimulates new ideas that eventually get made into short films by filmmakers. To cut a new start for the next 10 years, the seeds we have laid down for new projects last year have begun show healthy growth.
* In the “Let’s Travel! Project,” started along with the Japan Travel Agency, there were many short films that featured stories that had its roots in the various locations throughout Japan. The allure of traveling in Japan that turned into short films also became a new way of spreading out to the world the appeal of Japan that has drawn renewed interest and attention.
* In the Music Shorts category, which kicked off last year, in addition to the PV category where existing music videos became short films with music, the new creative category, which started this year, short films which take its inspirations from music has made its mark with a new visual rhythm.
* Of course the official competitions where the Grand Prix winners are eligible for nomination at the Academy Awards® and the STOP! Global Warming competition have re-energized as well. The FRED award for Best Actor & Actress, by spotlighting not just the short film filmmakers, have drawn fervid attention from actors and the fashion industry around the world.
* The festival, which has entered into adolescence, much like humans, has become even more responsive. By absorbing the many changes in the world and sharpening our sensitivity, we would like to caringly spend your valuable time with you. Along with our companion festival, the Short Shorts Film Festival Asia, we will be fortunate if we are able to have you experience the many entertaining possibilities that are available through the rich world of short films.
