The Haifa International Film Festival, the first such film festival in Israel, was inaugurated in 1983 and quickly gained a reputation as an important international cinematic event. The festival attracts some 300,000 visitors who attend the screenings of about 280 new films from around the world, live concerts and outdoor screenings for the whole family. The festival celebrates the artistic achievements in new Israeli cinema and its uncompromising, diverse character which addresses issues of Israeli society and pluralism. Some 300 guests from the Israeli and international film and television industry participate in the festival, meeting the audience, holding masterclasses and participating in industry workshops and competitions.
The Haifa International Film Festival’s artistic program is known for its high standards and quality and its emphasis on pluralism, co-existence and peace. The Festival strives each year to bring to Haifa the award-winning cinematic works from the top international film festivals and holds international film competitions with juries comprised of Israeli and international filmmakers, critics and academics.

Young Creators Competition: showcasing short films by high school filmmakers
The Haifa Festival presents the Israel or world premieres of feature and documentary films from more than 40 countries. Dozens of international filmmakers arrive in Haifa each year to present their films, hold Q&A with the audience and attend industry meetings. Among the guests at past editions of the festival: Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Brenda Blethyn, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Sophie Marceau, Joseph Fiennes, Paul Giamatti and Elliot Gould.
Special Events:
Post-production grants in the sum of one million NIS to be granted by BCL Finance Group, a film financing and production company. The grants will be given to the winners of the pitching forum, cinemarket and the Israeli feature fiction films competition.
Haifa Script Distillery: an initiative of Tadmor Entertainment in partnership with Keshet International and Endeavor Content, the Rabinovich Foundation-Cinema Project and in collaboration with Haifa Film Festival. This innovative project will be launched at the festival for Israeli scriptwriters seeking to develop scripts for film and television in English intended for the international market.
International marketing forum for Israeli cinema which includes the international pitching forum for development of drama and feature films.
The Israeli film market “Cinemarket Haifa.”:
The International Marketing Forum for Israeli Cinema includes a pitching forum for the development of dramas and films, the Israeli film market – "Cinemarket Haifa," and the Haifa-U.S. Israeli cinema marketing enterprise. The forum hosts representatives of major international production companies who conduct dialogues with representatives of the Israel film industry regarding future cooperation and collaboration.
VR Exhibition in Downtown Haifa:
50 Virtual Reality Films will be showcased in a unique international exhibition from 22-27 Sept. with the newest & best VR-AR experiences known today. The exhibition will include premieres of international VR films, including Israeli VR content, a special program for Art & Virtual Reality, live music shows, video arts and new technological advancements.
Outdoor Events:
Besides film screenings, the festival presents a rich nightly program of cultural events open to the public, including live music, outdoor film screenings, and an artisan market in the nearby Mania Shochat Park. The many cafes and pubs along the Carmel Ridge are open until late at night.
