A young Argentinean actor, Jago Garcia, is due to perform in a movie where he’s supposed to play the part of the current Pope. His commitment to such an important role is so strong that he’s willing to take part on a journey, following the origins of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, OUR POPE.
In order to do that, he travels along the same path the Bergoglio family did, back at the beginning of the 20th century. Originating from Italy, they were forced to escape from fascism and chose to take a ship from the port of Genoa, heading to Buenos Aires in Argentina.
But the ship they were supposed to take was at the center of the biggest naval disaster of all times, in Italy: it sank, killing all its passengers, while the Bergoglio family, who already had their tickets, didn't get on that ship in time, due to an accidental delay. That single delay made it possible for them to get to Argentina and give birth to the child who would eventually become Pope Francis.
The story of Pope Bergoglio is therefore a story of immigration: it starts in Italy, then goes to Argentina where he meets the poor among other immigrants and God with them, and eventually ends back in Italy, where as OUR POPE he chooses to speak for all the immigrants all over the world and defend them; because in the end they're all like him.
